Really??!! - Was I the only one wondering what Jon & Robin had to do with DR. John? So I asked
"Wayne Carson Thomas wrote "The Letter" for the Boxtops. He wrote Jon & Robin's tunes as well. Jon & Robin were a Texas outfit. They got regional hits with this stuff. Dr. John was playing the 'Chitlin Circuit' back then. Wayne saw Dr. John play, wrote the song, gave it to Jon & Robin who

made it a regional and national hit. Dr. Jon became a household word or name. When the real Dr. John came out with Gris Gris a year later, everyone thought he had done the original single and related to him from that although, I am sure there were a lot of very surprised crackers out there, the song didn't appear on his album and he sounded nothing like John and Robin. Nevertheless, it gave Dr. John a much needed commercial boost and signalled the end for Jon & Robin. The song, when given to them, made this Jon seem like the Dr. so it was a bit confusing for most Americans. Their song is the first introduction, for the world, to the delights of Mac Rebbenack - aka Dr. John."
